My son, like many kids, is a sugar fanatic. If he had it his way, he would eat sugar for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Don’t get me wrong, the kid loves his vegetables (thank you lucky stars!), but without fail, the moment he has swallowed his last bite of supper, he is asking for dessert.
To be honest, I’m cool with sugar, but I do try to limit my son’s intake and instead, give him the sweet things he desires, but in healthier forms. Thanks to my wonderfully and naturally sweet date syrup (see recipe here), I can add sugar to his morning smoothie while adding extra nutrients and fiber as well. The date syrup blends beautifully into the smoothie and tastes amazing.
For this smoothie, I use frozen strawberries, blueberries and bananas, along with hemp seeds for added protein, fiber and omegas. The end result is a fresh, sweet, and nutrient packed treat. Enjoy it for breakfast or lunch, or pour it into popsicle molds for a great summertime treat.
